Holy Day Mass on Monday Night

Sunday, November 2 is a day to remember our loved ones who have died. As Church, we pray for all who have died, as we unite ourselves with them in Mass.

Come and pray for specific people you wish to remember. We will light candles in their memory, and pray about how we may pray for them, so that one day they may pray for us.

Join us on Sunday night at 7 PM for Mass at the Ecumencical Center.

Over 20 UWGB students from Catholic Campus Ministry will join students from UW-Oshkosh, Silver Lake College and St Norberts next weekend on Chambers Island in Door County. We will be part of the College Work Retreat, which helps the retreat house get ready for the coming winter while we get to know each other, have fun, pray, and eat good food.

We will leave from the Ecumenical Center at 3:30 PM sharp on Friday afternoon, Sept. 19. We will return to campus on Sunday about 4:00 PM. If you need to study, there will be free time on the island on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Cost is $10. We need to have people paid with a signed registration form on Sunday night, Sept 14, after our 7 PM Mass.

Mass on the Grass

Join us this weekend for Mass on the Grass! It's our annual beginning of year Liturgy. Mass itself starts on Sunday night at 7 PM, but come early to get your new Catholic Campus Ministry t-shirt ("Make a Joyful Noise"), meet some people, and join in some songs.

After Mass, stick around for fellowship and make s'mores over the fire. Mallows, chocolate, and grahms provided.

Bring a blanket if you wish - we'll be sitting on the grass.

The pace of ministry is often more like a mad dash than a reflective jog. Endless activity can distract us from the focus of our ministry and the power of our vocation. Rediscover the heart of your mission by fixing your eyes on the prize of Jesus Christ. What is your game-plan for ministry? Learn to multiply your ministry by developing an intentional and comprehensive approach to attract, form and equip disciples for effective mission to the Church and the world. So much information! How can I possibly make this work at home? EC staff will host a special interactive workshop designed to help your ministry team develop a strategy for evangelization that will work in your unique ministry setting.

The EC's vision is that the Catholic Church be experienced as a vibrant, evangelical movement. We work towards the renewal of individuals, campus ministries, and parishes through an emphasis on interior conversion, devotion to the Scriptures, formation in the habits of discipleship, intense Christian community, and a commitment to evangelization.
How many of us, lay and ordained, charged with providing pastoral care have ever received the practical training needed to effectively recognize, reach, inspire, encourage and help the spiritually hungry? Our hearts are filled with love for God and for those we serve, but we are unsure how to implement ministries that help people enter into a meaningful and life-transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. Our best attempts at offering interesting talks, community gatherings, and other events often leave us disappointed at how few they have attracted and how little they have impacted the lives of our students, parishioners and the life of the parish as a whole.
The EC seeks to provide solutions to these problems so that our vision, and the Church's mission, can become reality.

CCM's T-Shirt Design Contest names new Champ.

Voting took place on Sunday, April 13th. With 18 entries for a chance to design a T-Shirt, Enter, and Win, Nick Vogel, guitarist for Finding Faith, took 1st place with the new logo and slogan "Make Some Noise"!

The winning design will be used for CCM's new line of shirts and ads.

NCSC Launches Project Linus Sunday Night

Children in area hospitals will be a little warmer this winter as Newman Catholic Student Community will be hosting a night of volunteer blanket-making, Sunday, March 9th, at the Ecumenical Center.

This event will take place in the Fireside Lounge of the Ecumenical Center, located across the parking lot from the Kress Events Center. All university students are encouraged to join in the effort to help make blankets for the hospitalized children of the Green Bay area. Sponsored by Newman Catholic Student Community, a student organization at the university, the blanket-crafting materials will be provided.

The process is easy, so anybody who wants to help can. “We will be making cut and tie blankets,” explains Mary Frank, a NCSC officer. “They are easy to make, and make the kids feel more at home in a stuffy hospital.”

For volunteers, it is suggested that if they are able, they should bring their own scissors and two yards of fleece. Organizers welcome all donations of fleece and scissors as well.

Project Linus is a national program that brings volunteers together to make blankets for children in the hospital. Their mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.” Named after the popular Peanuts character, "Linus", who is remembered for his special attachment to his security blanket, this program has over 406 chapters, and over 2,293,340 blankets have already been donated nationwide.

This program begins at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9th, at the Ecumenical Center on the UWGB Campus.

Too Busy? This Retreat is for YOU!

Busy Person's Retreat makes its annual appearance on Feb. 9 - 14.

This is a chance to make a retreat and talk with a spiritual guide without leaving campus (or classes). After 7 PM Mass on Sunday, Feb. 9, the spiritual directors for the week will be introduced. Students are then able to meet with one of them for a half hour on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Anything is fair game to talk about: life, faith, relationships, vocation, questions, prayer, or more. For those who need some prompting, a guidebook will also be available to help with discussion.

In addition to meeting with a spiritual director, participants are asked to spend a half hour in prayer each of the four days. Daily Mass, meals and more will be offered.

If you are too busy to pray, you would be the prime person for this lenten retreat!

The Superbowl Mass Kicks Off @ 4:00 PM

The NY Giants are facing off against the "undefeated" NE Patriots for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. New England, despite allegations of cheating early on, went 16-0, while their opponents out of New York are having a Cinderella season after a come-from-behind victory over the Green Bay Packers in overtime during the Championship Game at Lambeau Field.

So, naturally, a game this big can't be missed. Masstime at the Ecumenical Center moves to 4:00 PM this Sunday, but will resume at the regular 7:00 PM for the following weeks.

NCSC hosts the “Apples to Apples” Sunday Night Showdown

Students faced off in a battle of wits in the hit game: “Apples to Apples”. As part of this apple social, NCSC served up hot apple cider, sliced apples and caramel dip, and Laurie Svatek’s famous apple bread.

"Finding Faith"--CCM Band

"Finding Faith" is the CCM band. We play every Sunday night for Mass. We're made up of a choir, piano, acoustic guitar and bass, drums, flute, and clarinet. We do a mix of contemporary Christian songs and traditional church hymns.

Fr. Tom Long--Chaplain

Fr. Tom is the Catholic Chaplain to UWGB. He is at the EC on Sunday nights from 5:30-10 p.m. Father Tom offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation at 6:30 and Mass at 7. Besides Sundays, Fr. Tom is also on campus some weekdays. Because of his schedule, this day varies, but check out our bulletin to find out when to meet with him. He's always happy to set up a time.

When he is not at the EC, Fr. Tom is the Vocation Director for the Diocese of Green Bay. He travels around the diocese speaking about our call from God for a happy vocation to the married life, the single life, the religious life, or the ordained life. In a particular way, he works with men considering a life of diocesan priesthood. Fr. Tom lives at the Xavier House in DePere.

Kurt Krauss--CCM Outreach Coordinator

Kurt is the Outreach Coordinator. Sunday nights, he sets up the auditorium for Mass, and works some office hours Tues-Thurs. The 2008-09 year will be his 2nd year at UWGB. He spent this summer as a staff member for Catholic Youth Expeditions. In the spring of 2008, he worked as a stand-in for the Johnny Depp movie shoot in Oshkosh. While not acting as a celebrity, Kurt can be found wandering around campus much of the time. Kurt is a transfer student from UW-Manitowoc, majoring in Communications.

Originally from Door County, Kurt especially digs summertime: beaches, swimming, jetskiing, and fishing. He enjoys acting, both stage and film, and also does a fair amount of writing as well.

Nick Vogel--"Finding Faith" Coordinator

Nick is the 3rd year Director of "Finding Faith", our Catholic Campus Ministry band. Besides directing the band, you can see him rocking out on his electric acoustic guitar every Sunday night. Nick was a student at UWGB, a 2004 graduate, and majored in business. He was very involved with CCM then, and now he's back for more.

Recently, Nick began serving as Youth Minister at Holy Family Parish in Brillion. Prior to that, Nick was employed with the Investment and Trusts Dept. at Baylake Bank. Nick also builds his own custom guitars. He recently finished his 2nd handmade guitar soon. Nick loves country music, spending time at the beach and camping. He's an avid biker, snowboarder, and does some snowmobiling on the side.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CARD

Students from UWGB got together Sunday night to write and send 75 Christmas cards to the men and women serving overseas in the armed forces, in an effort to make their holiday season a little more brighter. To help personalize the cards, some brought pictures of themselves to send along as well. The Newman Catholic Student Community teamed up to put this plan into action. The cards will then be sent out to soldiers serving in Operations "Enduring Freedom" and "Iraqi Freedom".

ALL SAINTS DAY MASS

"All Christians aspire to become saints, that is, persons in heaven (officially canonized or not), who lived lives of great charity and heroic virtues".

Nov. 1st, at the All Saints Day Mass in the EC auditorium, students got together to celebrate the lives of the saints, and remember those special saints who were a part of their lives. Each person also lit a candle in memory of loved ones who've gone ahead.

Patron saints are chosen as special protectors or guardians over areas of life. These areas can include occupations, illnesses, churches, countries, causes -- anything that is important to us. Angels can also be named as patron saints. A patron saint can help us when we follow the example of that saint's life and when we ask for that saint's intercessory prayers to God.

MASS ON THE GRASS

We kicked off the 2007-2008 school year with over 80 students in attendance for Mass on the Grass. We gave away the CCM tees, featuring our new logo, and lit candles at dusk. Following Mass, in CCM fashion, the night was illuminated with the campfires and blazing s'mores.
